Spring Essentials – 03

Is there anything more sunny and spring-y than a pop of neon? I think not. And if the weather won’t cooperate with providing some much needed warmth, at least your wardrobe can, right?

I’m always so excited to bust out my flats after a long, painful winter of boots. Flats are so light and airy, they were made for spring wearing. And I think flats in a fun, unexpected color are absolutely necessary. They manage to make even jeans and a white tee look like a pulled together outfit. They’re easy and comfortable but in an interesting color they can still manage to be somewhat chic. Now this is going to be easy, I found the perfect spring flat AND it comes in five colors AND every one of them is awesome AND … they’re on sale. Go. Now. You’re welcome.

I’ve been fairly responsible this year when it comes to shopping. I’m definitely an enthusiast when it comes to the consumer arts but I’ve really made a concerted effort to shop less and buy more thoughtfully. It was kinda weird at first because shopping was such a habit but then not shopping became routine. But Spring is afoot. And changes in season are a shopping weakness for this girl. Something about the new outfit possibilities gets me all in an excited tither and my whole responsible shopping less thing kinda goes out the window. I’m still trying to keep things around here somewhat reigned in. But, I’m also excited to make some new purchases for the warm weather which allegedly should be headed this way. It just has to be right around the corner else Amy’s going to get a little stabby.
So, this week I’ll be sharing a few Spring Essentials in an attempt to will spring to arrive and stay once and for all. Here’s the first; a lightweight, paisley scarf. If you live in a normal place a scarf might not be necessary but ’round these parts it’s still disturbingly needed some mornings and most nights. (I wore my LEVEL 3 PUFFY coat to go get ice cream last night). Thankfully, a full winter scarf isn’t necessary and a nice airy lightweight one will do the trick. Paisley totally says spring to me and pair it with anything striped and you’ve got a kicky, pattern-mixing winner of an outfit. Trust.
Get Old Fashioned With Me

Big news. I’ve become a whiskey drinker. It’s a pretty recent development but I’ve rapidly become a BIG fan. Makers and soda is a good option but an Old Fashioned has become my jam as of late. The best. And the other night I attempted them at home (using this recipe). I prefer bourbon (but had rye) and I’d rather use a sugar cube or simple syrup (but had regular old sugar). Also, I know some people will be angered by my use of maraschino cherries but I like the festive addition of a cherry or two. But I will agree that these gorcery store ones are pretty scary so I’d like to invest in some fancy maraschino cherries or eff it I’ll just make my own. I don’t mind an orange slice mixed in, and a hint of club soda for some faint fizziness. I’m gonna try blood orange next.
So tell me, do you enjoy an Old Fashioned? If so, how?

This postcard because I’m in San Francisco and have been staying with one of my all-time favorite folks since Wednesday.
This hotel because I’m checkingĀ in today. For a fabulous wedding tomorrow. Oh and my sis and brother-in-law also happen to be staying at said hotel as they wrap up their honeymoon.
These ice cubes because I’ve started to make ice cubes from coconut water and use them in my morning smoothies. Yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds and yes I am in fact a genius.
This resort in Dominican Republic because I stayed their last weekend for my cousin’s wedding (’tis the season, I suppose) and had a fabulous time. Plus I got a taste of sun and you know this girl loves her some sunshine.
And this dress which just happens to be my wedding guest garb for this weekend. It also happens to be a most lovely raspberry color.
Alright y’all, happy weekend! Make it a fun one. xo
