Alright – that’s all I got today. I’ve been working lots and am hoping I won’t have to continue to work all weekend. So keep your fingers crossed for me and get into some trouble this weekend. But the good kind.

I find the very notion of putting labels on relationships a little annoying. In my younger days I think I focused too much on that who process. But didn’t we all? Constantly asking questions about what this was and where things were headed. But, in my ridiculously old age I’ve realized a lot of that stuff doesn’t matter. When it’s time to have a discussion about that stuff, it will happen. Otherwise, just try to relax and enjoy someone’s company. But I am a lady and sometimes we over think things, sometimes that annoying girl voice creeps in. But it’s not just me, I can’t tell you how many people have asked if the guy I’ve been seeing is my “boyfriend,” yet? The word “boyfriend” makes me feel a little bit like I’m 16. But what are the other options? Beau? Paramour? Boo? My Dude? Or my personal favorite, ManFriend? I feel like it always end up back at boyfriend. I may as well just embrace it, right?

So, the question is when does a boy become a boyfriend?

Here are some thoughts in numbered list form because I know how much you like your lists…

1. You’re not dating anybody else…
2. And you haven’t been for like four months…
3. You’ve taken down my OkCupid profile…
4. You’ve cooked for each other (he made Pad Thai, you made roasted veggie tacos and chicken noodle soup, not together though.)
5. You’ve had our first fight…
6. You’re starting to plan summer trips…
7. He’s met your mom…
8. AND (perhaps most important of all) She gave the all important and quite coveted Mom Seal of Approval.

Alert the media, y’all. It looks like I have a boyfriend.

But, reality check. In the scheme of things it’s no more than an annoying nuisance. But still, I don’t recommend it y’all. The small silver lining (if you want to see it) is that I get to shop for a new wallet. And well, that’s something isn’t it? (I’m trying here). And clearly, I’m feeling like a spring-esque wallet is in order. Plus maybe it’ll be more noticeable when I leave it sitting in the back seat of a cab.

p.s. I’ve decided spending more than $100 on a wallet is stupid. Come to think of it, if I keep losing these babies I shouldn’t spend more than ten bucks on a wallet. Seriously, should I look into a cheapie velcro one?

I’m always so excited to bust out my flats after a long, painful winter of boots. Flats are so light and airy, they were made for spring wearing. And I think flats in a fun, unexpected color are absolutely necessary. They manage to make even jeans and a white tee look like a pulled together outfit. They’re easy and comfortable but in an interesting color they can still manage to be somewhat chic. Now this is going to be easy, I found the perfect spring flat AND it comes in five colors AND every one of them is awesome AND … they’re on sale. Go. Now. You’re welcome.

So, this week I’ll be sharing a few Spring Essentials in an attempt to will spring to arrive and stay once and for all. Here’s the first; a lightweight, paisley scarf. If you live in a normal place a scarf might not be necessary but ’round these parts it’s still disturbingly needed some mornings and most nights. (I wore my LEVEL 3 PUFFY coat to go get ice cream last night). Thankfully, a full winter scarf isn’t necessary and a nice airy lightweight one will do the trick. Paisley totally says spring to me and pair it with anything striped and you’ve got a kicky, pattern-mixing winner of an outfit. Trust.

Big news. I’ve become a whiskey drinker. It’s a pretty recent development but I’ve rapidly become a BIG fan. Makers and soda is a good option but an Old Fashioned has become my jam as of late. The best. And the other night I attempted them at home (using this recipe). I prefer bourbon (but had rye) and I’d rather use a sugar cube or simple syrup (but had regular old sugar). Also, I know some people will be angered by my use of maraschino cherries but I like the festive addition of a cherry or two. But I will agree that these gorcery store ones are pretty scary so I’d like to invest in some fancy maraschino cherries or eff it I’ll just make my own. I don’t mind an orange slice mixed in, and a hint of club soda for some faint fizziness. I’m gonna try blood orange next.
