The save the dates were printed by Julie at Bumblebee Press in Atlanta. Highly recommended!

Happy Monday. It’s snowing in NYC which is kind of freaking me out. Hope you had fantastic weekends. Each and every one of you!

I’m back with some more red for you this morning. I have that Ikea book shelf that everyone has with the open square shelves and I’m using it for a TV stand thingy. The only problem was the unsightly (and highly visible) tangle of cords that has stared directly into my soul for the past few weeks. But fear not, Ikea sells cabinet inserts for this particular shelf so problem solved. And they had a bright red cabinet insert which (surprise surprise) caught this lady’s eye. I love a pop of red (or any color really.) Kind of hard to believe that it’s just a big ol’ mess of cords behind that cute lil’ door.

In other exciting news, I’m guest blogging today over at Snippet & Ink while Kathryn’s away getting married and honeymooning. So be sure to go check out my adult beverage inspired wedding boards. Thanks for having me, Kathryn!

I was Maid of Honor in a dear friend’s wedding this weekend. Jess and I have been friends for 20 years. It was a beautiful wedding and so much fun. I cried through the toast. I’m an emotional lady, sue me. I danced and drank and laughed and had fun and stayed out way too late. It was just what I needed. The hangover was a beast, but it was well worth it. It is always a joy to go to a wedding with fun people. And it doesn’t hurt when you can tell the couple is so in love and will be happy together for a very long time.

I wanted to give Jess a special gift just for her. In addition to the regular old wedding gift, I always feel like I want to do a little something extra for the bride. You may remember this gift I made for my friend Marth. I wanted to attempt something similar for Jess. I love the tradition of “Something old, something new..” but I like to do it my way. I knew she already had all of her wedding day accessories picked out so I skipped that entirely. Plus, they are supposed to come from a “happily married woman” which I am most certainly not. So using my trusty stamp kit (quite possibly one of the best purchases I’ve ever made) I created a gift bag o’ goodies for the lovely bride.

Something Old – As mentioned, we’ve been friends for many, many years. So the “something old” was a smattering of pictures through the years including one particularly hilarious one from the 8th grade (Jess was an agsty plaid clad teen, I was just a dork). I put them in an envelope with a hand written quote on the front which perfectly sums up my feelings toward life long friendships.

Something New – Some beachy accessories for her Spanish honeymoon. From Anthropologie (where else?)

Something Borrowed – Forgot to take a picture of this before I opened it. I guess I got a little excited. I picked up some Rifle Paper Co. recipe cards also from Anthropologie (I’ve never been shy about my Anthro- addiction). I filled out three of them for Jess with “borrowed” recipes from my grandmother, my mom and me the rest are for her and John to fill out over the years.

Something Blue – A toughy. So why not a box full of blue candy? Yes friends, that’s how I roll.

And here’s everything, all wrapped in kraft paper and twine and my hand stamped tags. Not too shabby, eh?

I threw a bridal shower this weekend for my good friend (since 5th grade!) Jessica. We didn’t really have a theme and the whole thing was pretty casual and low key. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to craft a little something though so I decided I wanted to make some favors: enter countdown chocolate bars. Who doesn’t want a delicious dark chocolate bar to take home with them? And I thought it would be cute to tie it all together by putting a countdown to the wedding somewhere on the bar. Here’s how I did it…

Supplies: good chocolate bars (make sure they have a gold or silver liner underneath the paper), 2 decorative papers, shipping tags, twine, a custom stamp kit (available here), scissors and tape.

Carefully remove the outer layer of paper from all of the chocolate bars making sure the metallic liner stays intact. Tape the loose end of the liner to make sure it’s secure. Cut the paper you will use underneath so that it is wide enough to almost cover the entire bar while leaving a bit of the metallic wrapper showing on each end. Then cut the bands so they are about an inch wide. Wrap the first piece of paper around each bar securing with tape. Repeat with the contrasting band.

Use the letters from a custom stamp kit to write out the message you want on your tags. I chose “Jessie and John tie the knot in 70 days.” If you don’t have a customizable stamp set, I would recommend investing in one. You can customize the stamps again and again. And, I just love the imperfections that using a stamp gives you.

Lastly attach the tags to the bars by wrapping the twine around in a fun way. Done and done. Kind of fun, no?

My pal’s wedding was so much fun, and she’s an uber- talented designer so it was also perfectly designed with lots of fun little details. This came as no surprise to me considering the save the date and invitation suite were so presh. Here’s some of the little things that made the wedding so special. I apologize in advance for the crappiness of the photos, I did not have my good camera.

Fun Martha Stewart pompoms floated above them as they said their I dos.

I love the garlands that tangled from all the tables (big surprise)

She made these! They were also on the invites. So cute.

Martha had these bibs made so nobody would get bbq sauce on their fancy clothes. I think they’re adorbs.

The dessert table was like a dream, 5 different cakes! And the little handmade cake flags made it that much more precious.

Plus my pal has always had the bestest handwriting!

These special butter mint cookies were also on the dessert table. The recipe (which was featured in the Atlanta paper and was also on the table) was her Grandmother’s. They were tasty AND worked perfectly with the color scheme.

Besides getting my pal something off of her wedding registry, I also wanted to put together something a little more personal and a little more special for her wedding. When I saw this amazing gift, I knew I wanted to do something similar with the wedding day tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. It’s so timeless and charming and there are so many different ways to interpret it. I didn’t stress about trying to come up with stuff she would wear on her wedding day, I just wanted to find fun, pretty things my friend would love. So here’s what I did:

Something old – lovely vintage milk glass dish, perfect for keeping jewelry in atop your dresser.

Something new – these pretty earrings that had a bridal feel, but were also just good everyday options.

Something borrowed -This is a toughie! I told Ant I wanted to do something with old photos and mementos and he said “oh, like borrowed from the past?” Perfect, Anthony! So I made a little scrapbook with some favorite pics and other fun tidbits from yesteryear.

(Here are some of the pages)

Something blue – What else? One of my fall favorites, a super-soft pashmina in a gorgeous blue.

All wrapped up in a precious little box that I covered with craft paper and then rubber stamped.

I stayed over to get some extra time with my mom and sis! And I figured it was pretty important that you peep my wedding outfit. So feast your eyes, my friends:

I had it stuck in my head that I wanted a yellow dress and finally found one online at uber-random Newport News. The price was right though, at $49 beans! Whilst there I found some extra-sparkly hoops and nabbed them. Keeping the purse simple with a black clutch, like this one. And lastly the shoes, suggested to me by my go-to shoe advisor and special lady friend Tori, are absolutely perfect.

Now, in honor of my special time with my dearest friend, call your besties and tell them that you love them. I hope you all enjoyed a lovely weekend.

As you probably know, my best pal is getting married in under a month. Remember her adorable save the date and invite? Well, my mom, sis and I are hosting a post wedding brunch for her and her hubby to be. Should be a good time with plenty of bloody mary’s and mimosas I mean it is the morning after the wedding so some of us may need a wee bit of hangover relief. I had to design, print and mail the invites out pretty quick because we knew people would be booking tickets and they would want to know about the brunch before doing so. I designed a simple postcard (yay for not having to deal with envelopes) and had it printed online here. I’m pretty happy with the finished result. Here it is, whatdoyathink?

I’ve mentioned before that my BF Martha is getting married in October. Yahoo for lifelong pals! Remember her amazing save the date and the hunt for shoes I did in her honor? Well, I just received the invite in the mail. I immediately picked up the phone and called her to gush about it’s amazing-ness. No surprise there though, my girl Marth is a ridiculously talented graphic designer with crazy creative skills. I have to admit I was a wee bit concerned that she wouldn’t be able to top the save the date because it was so freakin’ awesome. But she totally nailed it and the invite perfectly connects back to the save the date but is even more beautiful if that’s possible. I love the charming fabric strip that it all came wrapped in and the personalized silhouette tab she designed. And the two little blue lovebirds are so very precious! But don’t take my word for it, check my pal’s lovely invite for yourself.

Remember the shoe hunt I went on for my BF Marth who is getting married in October? Well, I just got her Save The Date in the mail and it is unbelievable! I had to share it with you. She designed the letterpressed card and then stitched all of them to a variety of fabric swatches in her color scheme of blue and green. The type is impeccably designed but also has a lovely down to earth handmade feel. Of course I’m not surprised by it’s stunning awesomeness, Marth is a graphic designer by trade and she just oozes good taste. I would hate her a little bit if I didn’t already love her so much. Can’t wait for October, yahoo!
