Have I mentioned that in my (almost) eight years as a New Yorker I’ve moved about 6 times. Kind of insane, no? But like clockwork around a year and a half I start to get that itch. And wouldn’t you know it, here it is. I start craving a new place, a new area and perhaps most importantly, a new blank canvas to make my own. I think that’s what I love the most. So in lieu of having a whole new place to Amy-fy, I’ve decided I need to make some small changes around here to keep things fresh and interesting. I’m thinking of investing in a new piece of art, painting my old kitchen table and I’m going to get a new comforter cover.

I can’t be the only one who loves Urban Outfitters cheapish duvets, right? Yes, that store makes me feel a little bit like an old lady. But it’s hard to argue with their immense collection of festive duvets. Bold and bright, which is exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for.

Oh nothing much going on around here. Just stalking 20×200 and being totally inspired, as usual. I still have some empty spots in my place that could use some affordable art. And I have a ‘hanging up art’ itch that hasn’t been scratched in a while. Maybe I’ll partake in some NYC themed art. It is the best city in the world, after all.

Organizational Therapy

So, Gretchen Rubin of The Happiness Project was one of the keynote speakers at Alt Summit. I haven’t read the book, but the basic premise is that Gretchen spent a year of her life trying to be happy. Gretchen has plenty to say on the topic of happiness and her blog is worth a read through. She says one of her “greatest realizations about happiness is that outer order contributes to inner calm.” I find that when I walk in to a clean(ish) apartment I do feel a sense of calm and warmth. And when my place is messy and disheveled it makes me feel lazy and irritated. So, in an effort to find some inner calm this weekend, I cleared off and decluttered my dresser (which was admittedly getting pretty scary). I still own way too many earrings and bracelets. But it looks good and it feels even better.

Homebodiness

I’m not what you would call a homebody. I’m an out-and-about sort of lady, but I do love my apartment. It’s cozy and cute and it’s home. Sometimes when I come in from the cold I can’t help but smile because feel so happy and content to be within these walls of mine. I wish I could have each of y’all over for treats and chatting. Wouldn’t that be just awesome? In lieu of that here’s the next best thing; some beautiful pictures of my place that my photog pal Katie Murphy took at the blogger’s dessert party I co-hosted with Natalie last month. I know I’ve probably talked about this party enough, but theses pictures are too lovely not to share.

Home is Where the Art is

Some might say I’m obsessed with my hometown. And that’s not true. Okay I’m lying, it totally is. I love my southern roots. Why this here blog is named after the masterpiece Ray Charles wrote about my home state of Georgia. And I’ve been known to purchase a few Atlanta/Georgia themed items in my day. And I’m always on the look out for new additions. My pal Kelly knows that, so she sent me this, which I promptly ordered. I mean come on, I am not an idiot. But this new addition and my obsession in general has me wondering, have I overdone the whole hometown pride thing? What do y’all think? How much Atlanta/Georgia art is too much?

Big and Colorful

My apartment looks great. In fact it’s mostly done-ish. But there are a few holes and things I’d still like to do or get or improve on. One such hole is here the wall behind the table, the dining area I guess you would call it. But right now it’s the jigsaw puzzle area (nerd alert!) because I don’t eat at the table all that much.

So I think I want an oversized, colorful vintage poster to fill that space. I know, shocking I’m interested in something colorful AND vintage. How weird. What a departure, Amy. Oh well, I like what I like. Here’s some fun findings that might work nicely.

Thanks for all your sweet comments about my apartment. I appreciate them so much. I’ve been working hard on making this little place a cozy home. And you better believe it’s an ongoing process. I keep finding new little items to fall in love with. I’m totally obsessed with this precious red mirror I just got (from this cute shop). It’s perfect for applying lip gloss on your way out the door.

And I am equally enamored with this picture ledge which I hung (with help from a pal) a few weeks ago. I love layering different prints and pictures, plus it’s so non-committal.

I love these lil’ NYC stamps so much, I had to display them. And in the background you can see one of my favorite pics of me and my sisters.

Did I ever tell you I have a little collection of vintage mason jars? Well. I do.

I am still on the hunt for a chair to go in my living room area. And on Sunday night as I watched the Oscars I held a tiny sleeping baby for two hours while I sat in a rocking chair. And you know what I realized (besides the fact that I need to find a man to knock me up real quick)? Rocking chairs are very, very awesome. And perhaps I should have one.

1. Yippee. I had a very successful house warming party. Lots of good friends, food and booze. The trifecta of good times in my opinion. And since my place was all clean and pretty I figured we’d have a virtual house warming of sorts right here.

2. Be sure to stop by the lil bee today. I’m over there guest posting about how amazing sisters are. I mean they’re kind of the best.

3. The Oscar Pool results are in! And we have a tie! Danni from oh hello friend and Carolyn from victory with flair are the winners. Congratulations, ladies! And thanks to everyone who participated.

Party Time

And we’re back! WOW. What a week. What a terrible awful week. As most of you know my site was totally hacked and it was a nightmare to fix. Luckily, my ex is a nice person and he totally took care of all of it for me. Otherwise I would have been up shit creek without a paddle. Be careful, guys. I had a preview of what losing this blog would be like and it was heartbreaking. We pour so much energy and love into our blogs, we need to take the time to protect them. Thanks for all your emails and tweets of concern and love. I’m just thankful that it’s all okay now.

And on the heels of a terrible week, I’m finally having a little housewarming gathering tomorrow. Hey, it’s only been 4 months, right? I’ll be having pals over for drinks and snacks and fun. You’ll all be there in spirit! Here’s the cute little invite I designed.
