I don’t know about the rest of the world, but NYC has been on a killer weather streak recently. Pretty much just nailing it with sunny skies and mild temps. You know those lovely days that remind you spring, is in fact, on it’s way! I love that feeling and I’m ready for warmer days. My legs however, are decidedly not. Yesterday I brought out the ol’ gams for the first time and wore a dress and boots with no tights. Ahhhhhh! It was terrifying! My legs were ghostly white! I always have had time transitioning away from tights to bare legs. I just get so used to the second-skin-like coverage and when it’s stripped away I feel so naked. Now once I got some color on my legs I’ll be just fine (and luckily I’m heading to a sunny climate to do just that next weekend). But just in case that’s not enough or you I some extra help in the color department, I turn to Tan Towels. My friend Laura turned me onto these babies and they are amazing. Just the right amount of self tanner in a nice, self-contained towelette. Just rub all over your body, let it dry and enjoy the totally natural bronzed and not at all terrible Jersey Shore orange you. Until I can get an actual tan, these babies are a true life saver. I get mine from Sephora.

Hope y’all had a fantastic long weekend filled with family and friends and fun and festive holiday good times. I had a great Christmas. I got way too many presents considering I’m an adult lady but that’s just the kind of family I have. I got an iPad and I’m pretty excited about this new iPad having me. She is somehow cooler and more connected. Thanks Apple!

On a semi-related note: I’m slightly obsessed with the Camp Socks from JCrew. They are thick and warm and cozy and perfect for winter time. I gave them away to several of my favorite ladies for Christmas. Because is there a greater gift in the world than warm, cozy feet? I say, no.

Let’s talk soap really quick. I’ve recently been converted to this fancy soap that you can only get at Whole Foods. It comes in a variety of deeelicious scents (I’m partial to Gardenia, but I also love Shea Butter and Green Tea). Coming in at about six bucks a bar (although I found it a bit cheaper online) it’s a little pricey for soap. But, it’s worth every penny. For reals. It’s really moisturizing (you can shave with it!) and nice and gentle. And you smell like a dreamscape afterwards. And the best part of this new soap? It was introduced to me by none other than the new gentleman in my life. Isn’t good taste in soap such an attractive quality in a boyfriend? So, my soap AND my man smell good. I call that a win, pals.

I love pretty smelling things. I fall prey to their seductive nature quote often. And perfumes can be an A#1 culprit. I used to switch perfumes quite frequently. And this was usually not because I was sick of the scent I was wearing, but because I had smelled something new and delicious and decided I absolutely had to have it. That’s how you end up with too many perfumes, my friends. But no longer! I’ve decided I like the idea of having a signature scent. No more switching around, it will confuse everyone! I’ve been wearing original Marc Jacobs for awhile now and I just adore it. According to Sephora it has notes of gardenia, wild muguet (?), skin musk (WTF – is there skin in my perfume?), cedar and ginger. Which aside from the weirdnesses that I made note of, makes total sense, I pretty much worship gardenia (which I’ve mentioned). So, I’m sticking with Marc Jacobs for awhile. That’s my big news. Huge news, really.

How about y’all? Do you have one signature scent? Or do you mix it up? And also, why is it so fun to talk about perfume?

I’m a product person. I admit it. I spend way too much money on makeup and cosmetics, but what can I say? I love the stuff and the true mark of a great product is something that makes your life easier. Enter Sake Hair Cream from Fresh. My friend Tori (a self-proclaimed makeup/product enthusiast who makes me look bush league) swears by this stuff and she’s pretty much always right about which products are worth your money. Summer is around the corner, and it’s just too damn hot to use a blow dryer during the summer here. (Remember, we don’t have central air!) Sake Hair Cream is perfect for this situation. It’s just so durn easy! When I get out of the shower a towel dry my hair a little and then scrunch some of this miracle cream through it. Then I forget about it and most importantly I don’t brush it or blowdry it. The cream somehow works with what your hair naturally does and just amplifies it. So, for me it helps define my suuuuuuper subtle waves and plays them up a little creating an almost beachy, messy look. So, simplifies my life and makes me hair look purty?! Yep, that’s definitely simple happiness.

What is about the oven that magically transforms plain ol’ vegetables into delicious taste sensations? This lady is a big fan of roasted veggies, in fact I often have them for dinner. Start with any veggie, add some olive oil, salt and pepper (and maybe ever some cheese if you’re felling saucy) and you have a bowl of deliciousness. It’s one of the easiest and also tastiest dinners around. Now, what’s simpler and happier than that?

And now I bid you a happy weekend, my dears. I see a lot of working on my horizon, unfortunately. But I am hopeful for a few hours off to do some baking and holiday shopping. It may not be in the cards so I’m cautiously optimistic. And if I can just get through the next couple days I’ll be home free. And that’ll feel really good. Things have already improved greatly due to all the positive vibes and cosmic goodness y’all sent me yesterday. Thank you for that, it was much appreciated. I will see you on the other side, pals.

I kind of feel bad for the saltine. It’s often overlooked and always under appreciated. But not by me, I love the saltine. It’s not a hard and fast rule, of course, but sometimes the simplest really is the best. And the saltine is perfectly simple. Of course it’s delicious crumbled up in chicken soup. But I also enjoy it with peanut butter, regular butter, jam and a host of other toppings. Another delicious treat is toasting cheese atop saltines, the edges getting a lil’ burnt, which I love. It’s a cheesy, melty good time and you can honestly eat that for dinner. All I’m sayin’ is don’t over look the poor saltine. I think it’s time we gave them some propers. That is all.
