In honor of Mad Men returning amc.com posted the list of 20 Quintessential Movies of the 1960′s.

I love any and all things 1960′s and I’m a huge sucker for quintessential lists. But apparently I have some work to do in the classic 1960′s movie watching department. I’ve only seen three of the twenty films listed (pictured below). I better get to work on my Netflix queue. Sadly, my favorite 1960′s movie didn’t even make the list. Here’s the top 5:

1. The Graduate
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
3. The Apartment
4. Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
5. Midnight Cowboy

How about you? Have you seen many of these classics? Any favorites to recommend?

I’ve mentioned that my aunt is a brilliant and dedicated archivist of any and all family memories. This includes paperwork, keepsakes, photos, even recipes. She scans everything and sends it to us on discs. For someone who has a love affair with all things vintagey and papery this is like hitting the lottery. One thing that has always stood out to me is this telegram. Dorothy was my grandmother (though we called her Dottie) and “baby girl” is the aunt I mentioned. I geek out over the old type designs and the creases and the aging that comes with the territory. There’s something nice about having an actual piece of paper to mark these big life occasions. Now it would just be a text or worse, a facebook update. (I just threw up).

One thing of note: the telegram was sent to 128 West 13th Street. Well, that’s right in my neighborhood. A five minute stroll over and I was right in front. Kind of perfect.

I just love old things. Sorry, but I do. And I just stumbled onto this lovely little etsy shop and I kind of wanted to buy outtheir entire stock. Here’s a few highlights. And I know what you’re thinking so don’t even say it. I just HAVE to purchase that A drum don’t I? IT would be a crime not to buy that beauty.

Aaaaand with that I will wish you a happy weekend full of fun. I’ve got my usual hodge podge of socializing on the docket: a date, a brunch, a coffee. You know. Enjoy your respective weekends my pals and I’ll see you back here on Monday.

Artist Crush: Crispin Finn

I stumbled upon the fantastically creative design duo Crispin Finn just the other day (I found them via this post from CMYBacon) but I was instantly in love. They are masters of the vintage type aesthetic (something that this lady adores) and I love that they stick with a simple, consistent color palette. Big fan. Only problem is what to order first?

Maybe those terrible mornings when the alarm wakes you up and you could have sworn you just put your head down on the pillow (you know the ones) wouldn’t be quite so terrible if you were awoken by on of these beauties.

Friends, meet the Blue Carrot shop. What can I say? I am simply in love with this super charming online shop that’s full of wonderful, vintage goodness. It’s a perfectly curated collection with lots of great housewares and ephemera. And everything is beautifully photographed which makes such a difference, don’t you think? I snapped up this awesome “A” sign and fruit crate.

But not too worry, there are plenty of other lovely items for you to claim. Head over and visit. Here’s a few of the other things I was eyeing. I had to pull myself away before I bought out the entire store.

A Healthy Dose of Nostalgia

So I wasted a good hour on this site last week (thanks to my pal, Jill from anawesomeaday). It’s a utopia of all sorts of late 80′s/early 90′s goodness and I can’t pull my eyes away. I love how super cheeeeeeesy everything is, but yet we had absolutely no idea. That’s the wonderful part of it all. Here’s some highlights. Enjoy, friends!

highlights: Orange Juice bubble gum (it came in a tiny orange juice carton!), Kevin and Winne (one of the great love stories of our generation – suddenly wanting to lock myself inside and watch reruns of The Wonder Years all weekend), Speak & Spell, Makit & Bakit, Larry & Balki (LOVE the Perfect Strangers theme song btw), Chainsaw and Dave from Summer School (a masterpiece of a film in my humble opinion).
p.s. I am still sick in bed, feeling better but not great. Thanks for all the well wishes. I hope to be back to normal tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Channeling Billie Holiday

Today I bring you a heaping dose of good ol’ fashioned narcissism. Because of my appreciation and love of all things vintage, I thought I would share with you how I got my hair did for the wedding. It was a chignon with a pretty flower tucked in. Some even went as far as to call the flower “perfectly placed.” That, paired with the sassy ruffles on my dress, and I have to admit I was totally channeling Ms. Holiday.
