Happy (Belated) New Year

(my new years card)

So yes, I’m aware of the fact that it’s January 8th and that I’m a teensy bit late penning this (somewhat) obligatory New Year post. I know some people jumped into the new year all excited and ready to face 2013. And I have been that person in the past. But that just ain’t me this year. I’m not not excited, I’m just choosing to ease into things real slow and easy like. Last week was just an extension of the holidays so I decided that 2013 started officially for your truly on Monday. And that decision might have been loosely based on the fact that  I just had a weekend that prominently featured much bourbon and terrible-for-you foods and felt like I needed a fresh start. Who knows. But I’m happy to say it’s 2013 around here and I’m doing my best to embrace it.

I’m not one for big resolutions. I feel like they’re just asking to be broken and then you feel crappy about yourself and then you eat a tub of ice cream. Or something like that. I think the new year is a natural time to reflect on the past year and think about what you’d like to get out of the new year. I think it’s more about hopes and goals than it is about strict resolutions.

Here are some things that I hope 2013 might hold in store for this lady:
-More volunteering (starting with a new six week volunteer project that begins next week).
-A (highly anticipated) move to Brooklyn.
-A new website.
-More running (participate in a race over 4 miles!)
-Keep writing, complete my short memoir and try to do something with it.
-Less clutter in my apartment (moving always provides the perfect opportunity to get rid of tons of shit).
-More awesomeness, you know, just in general.

So. Bring it, 2013. I’ve got big plans for you.

I think your list of 2013 goals is one of the best (most attainable) ones I’ve read so far…especially that little bit about moving to Brooklyn! Good luck in the new year!!!
