Costa Rica: Zip Lining

While I was in Costa Rica I had the opportunity to zip line. I jumped at the chance. I’m not scared of heights (I’ve been sky diving AND bungee jumping before) and I’m pretty much a try-anything-once sort of gal. So I convinced my trip pal Erin to come along and we went zip lining through the trees of Costa Rica.

I under-estimated how scary being up there would actually be. Because once we were up on the tiny wooden platforms high above the ground I thought “well self, you could definitely die today.” And I didn’t think the line would break or anything like that, but I sometimes obsess over human error. Like maybe the guy who was more interested in finding out if we had boyfriends or not than he was in making sure we were hooked to the right apparatus would forget to connect this thingamabob to that doo hickey and I’d plummet to my tragic death on the side of a Costa Rican mountain.

But luckily, that didn’t happen. And even though the man who was in charge of our lives for that hour and a half spent most of the time flirting with us, he was apparently a capable zip line tour guide and he made sure that we survived. And we had a great time. I’m so glad I did it. There’s something so thrilling about flying through the trees and also kind of maybe thinking you’re going to die. I guess it’s that whole thrill seeking/rush thing that people get addicted to.

And maybe it’s time I accept I’m kind of one of those people. Have you ever zip lined?

(Super awkward moment where I had to straddle the tour guide. It was a little close and a little personal but totally worth it.)
