springtime cheers

Posted on | April 24, 2012 | 9 Comments

I had a Pimm’s Cup at brunch on Saturday and I was reminded of how perfect that cocktail happens to be. It’s light and refreshing and just plain ol’ delicious. I’ve never made one of my own but after a little research on the internets, turns out they are super easy to make. It’s just Pimm’s + fizziness + garnish. And I love fanciful garnishes. That’s it, I think this will my be go to cocktail of spring. Now if spring could just show up for good then I’d be all set. Have you identified your go to cocktail of spring yet? Do some soul searching and get back to me, this is important.

This Pimm’s Cup recipe seems perfect.

YES! Pimm’s cup is my absolute 100% favourite drink! I mean, it’s just perfect! Sweet with a tang, a crunchy cucumber waiting for you at the end (you HAVE to have a cucumber) and it’s just so reminiscent of summer. Yup, pretty soon I’ll be shoving a whole lot of these into my face with the arrival of my favourite season.

Well, mine is a strong one. But I am also studying for finals. Maker’s Mark, several squeezes of lemon and a dash of maraschino cherry juice and a cherry.. and a little water stirred in. Mmm it is great!

@erin – elderflower liqueur is the shit. and that ain’t no lie.
@Tan – I think the cucumber might be my favorite part.
@gia – I should have mentioned (and this is weird) but my other cocktail of the moment is maker’s and soda on the rocks with a cherry!! Great (and tipsy) minds…

@Erin, what you are basically making is a French Gimlet. Just add a squeeze of lime and you’ve got it!

Amy, I swear sometimes it’s like you live in my head. I thought about doing a “Pimms-athon” online with a bunch of bloggers because there are a bazillion ways to make one (personally, I add gin!). Since I’m such a booze hound, I have lots of go-to cocktails for spring, but I suppose my favorites are a Tom Collins, Slow Gin Fizz, or a Gin Buck (yes, I’m a gin fan!).

@Deanna – what kind of gin? I always thought I didn’t like gin but I DO! I just don’t like it when it tastes like a Christmas Tree. I’m a booze hound as well, but you’ve probably figured that out. xo

I’ve heard nothing but glorious things about Pimm’s. Yet, I have totally not had this cocktail. I’m going to have to change this. ASAP. I totally love the cucumber action in there.

I had a cucumber gimlet last year that just about changed my life. Even better? It was in a dark piano bar. Almost life-changing.

This spring? I’ll get back to you.

My gin of choice is Brokers, but Hendricks is a very close second. If you can find it, try to gins from Berkshire Mountain Distillers. Here’s a little ditty I wrote up about it: http://fromscratchclub.com/2011/09/15/locavore-challenge-a-locavores-guide-to-booze/
