And the nominees are…

Posted on | January 26, 2012 | 12 Comments

I’m kind of an Oscar nerd. I’ll openly admit that. And every year I say I am going to see all of the best picture nominees but I usually get distracted (oh! something shiny!) or just lose steam. But, I am ever the optimist, and I think this could be the year! The way I see it I have already seen three of the nominated movies (not the check marks below), and two are easily watchable at home via iTunes (Midnight in Paris and Tree of Life) so that leaves four that I’d have to go to the theater and see (The Artist, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Hugo and War Horse). I think I can do it, I really do! I’m feeling it this year. Which of the nominees have you seen? And don’t forget to keep an eye out for The Second Annual Old Sweet Song Oscar Pool which I’ll be organizing in a few weeks. That way we can all geek out over the Academy Awards together.

Well, you’re ahead of me. I never seem to be able to see all the nominated movies either. Maybe after the fact.

The Artist is what is so appealing to me! And Hugo. I think the discount theater is playing Hugo next week so I’m hoping to catch it!

Loved The Artist. But my favorite of the year was Beginners. Just…incredible.

I always say I’m going to watch all of the Best Picture nominees, too. This will be our year, I can feel it! You’ve got the jump on me, though…I haven’t seen any of them yet. Time to get to work!

I haven’t seen any of the nominees. Oi.
A couple years ago I had a weekly oscar party. Every sunday a bunch of us would get together for food and an oscar nominated film, watching each one until the actual oscar day (which is when the big party happened).
I keep meaning to do it again. It was the only year I actually knew what was going on

Hello, my name is Jen and I’m a movie geek. (Hiiii Jen) My husband, a fellow movie geek, and I went so far as to name our children after movie characters. (murmurs and knowing nods)

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let me say the only ones I haven’t seen are: The Artist, which I’m dying to see!; Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which I may skip as I cried just at the trailer alone; Tree of Life, which I heard was terrible; and War Horse, which I kind of feel like I could take it or leave it.

Looking forward to the Oscar pool!

I’m knocking out The Artist and The Descendents in a double feature this Sunday. I don’t think I want to sit through War Horse or the Tree of Life.

My vote is for Midnight in Paris. Made me beam from ear to ear from start to finish!

Oscar night is my superbowl. I sit in front of the tv, watch (and judge) the fashions and then watch the entire show from beginning to end…even the not as exciting parts like best documentary short. I’m going to go see The Artist next week. It’s playing at the Paris and I’ve never seen a movie there so that is reason enough for me. looking forward to your pool!

I’ve only gotten to three of those so far: Hugo, Midnight in Paris, and The Help. The Artist is next on my list. I hear it’s fantastic.

I’m an Oscar geek, too! But this year I took the pressure off and just added all the obscure ones (ie Albert Nobbs) to the Netflix list. I really loved the Artist! I saw it when it was first out so I don’t know if there’s too much expectation now but it’s really so sweet and lovely. I also loved Moneyball and Incredibly Loud. The Descendants is great too. Same with The Help. Oy, get out a fat stack of magazines when you see Tree of Life. I can appreciate it but didn’t like it. And Midnight in Paris is so fun, too (especially if you are a big reader). OK, I’ll stop now …
