inspiration folder: diners

There’s something so comforting and soul satisfying about a good ol’ fashioned no frills diner. I think the chill in the air has me craving the coziness of squeezing into a booth. It’s a nice escape from the cold. I love the never ending cups of hot, cheap coffee or if I’m feeling frisky, a delicious black and white shake. And there are a precious few things in the world that I love more than a perfectly made diner BLT. So. Anybody free for lunch?

I LOVE diners! You should check out my friend Crystal’s blog (about diners): http://windshielddiaries.blogspot.com/search/label/diner
In my little rural town, we have two diners, and they each have their own loyal following. It’s really funny. We also have one of the world’s best secret steakhouses (seriously — respected food mags and organizations have proclaimed it one of the 10 best in the world… but because it has a secret phone number, only serves 3 nights a week, and makes you place your order a week in advance for certain cuts (and because it’s actually located in the lower level of an old farmhouse) so few people know about it. An incredibly good and strange place).

man, I looove reading your posts. I find them so heart-warming, like I{m talking to a friend, we see the world in very similar ways! And being new to Seattle, away from all my friends, it is nice to have a few lines to read every day that make me feel less lonely.
Diners, HECK YES! If I were in NY and not in Seattle, I’d def do lunch with you. Enjoy!!

Oh, Standee’s! It’s right by the Loyola University Chicago campus and, in my experience, had truly awful food. It was tragic, though, when it closed down last year.

I missed diners when I was on the West Coast — they have some stuff that’s similar, but nothing really like an East Coast diner. Thank goodness I’m back.
