Hooray! Reading!

As I mentioned yesterday, I went to a baby shower for a good friend this weekend. I sent something from the registry but I always feel a tiny bit awkward showing up empty handed or with a card that says “um, yeah, your gift is on the way.” So, I decided to give the mom to be my two favorite books from childhood. I know it’s early and the baby won’t be looking at books for awhile but reading is so important! And it’s never to early to start a solid collection of great children’s books for your kids. Right? So I present you with my two favorites. I can still remember my dad reading me The Lorax and my mom reading me Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel. Oh my goodness now I feel like crying.
What were your favorite books growing up?

Mike Mulligan was my dad’s favorite. Mine was “The Little House” by the same author. I like to give books to kids too. They were so important to me. Still are!

I loved these books! Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs might be my all-time fav children’s book, but that’s probably a bit older than these two. Great picks!

My mother used to read this great book to me when she was pregnant with my brother called Little Hippo. The sad part is that she borrowed it from the library and I’ve never been able to find it again. I did love that book though.

The Giving Tree. It’s a winner.

What a cute idea for a little shower gift! Books were some of my most cherished items when I was a kid. I loved an Australian series called the Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. It has sweet little illustrations… I would beg my mom to read it to me all the time

Mike Mulligan was a favorite of both my brother and I! I also loved A Very Hungry Catepillar.

When my best friend had her little girl, my whole gift centred around reading…some favourites i remember, bath books, the whole shebang. I’ve designated myself as her “soul mother”…she has so many people in her life who will cultivate her spiritual development, so I wanted to makes sure someone is there for all the other good things in life…reading and music and dancing and laughing. Now for all major events, I give her another book (and whatever else I come up with to spoil her…love that little girl).
