By Color

I don’t have a huge book collection. When you move every year (seems to be my approximate average as of late) you get sick of hauling books back and forth. But seriously, is there anything cuter than my little collection of books arranged by color on my ikea bookshelf? Swoon.
These aren’t the only books I have, but they are the ones that worked in this color coded formation. And I know I owe you some pictures of my place and I’m working on it. I seem to be dragging my feet on some of these larger decisions. Big surprise.

Looks great! I don’t recommend doing this with a large/full bookshelf if you use even some of the books regularly. A friend of mine (he helps me arrange furniture, make and hang curtains, etc) convinced my to do this with my 7 shelf bookcase (lots of books!) and now I have to remember the color of the book in order to find it! I will say that it looks cool and everyone notices…

i’m a sucker for books … of any shape or size. & unlike you i have half a library in my house. thankfully uncle sam does the actual packing & moving for us because otherwise there would be a whole lot of heavy lifting! they look great though. xx

When we were still apartment dwellers I had an Expedit shelf that looked just like this. I still sort them by color, but now they are on the built-ins in our living room. Also, we have exactly one book in common- Amy Sedaris’ “I Like You”

I agree with Eliza – I have TONS of books (when my husband and I moved in together, we went through all our books and found we had over 1000, not counting those we store in our respective offices. We just donated over 300 to our local library). Thing is, we actually use most of these books. Sorting them by color would never work for us. However, your collection looks absolutely adorable. If I ever whindle my collection down, maybe I’ll take a cue from you, as well!
