Some words on sisterhood
Posted on | January 12, 2010 | 11 Comments
Having a sister is one of the most amazing things in the world. I lucked out in the sibling lottery. My little sister Margaret (although I NEVER call her that and instead use one of about a million nicknames I have for her) is my bestest friend in the whole world. We have a special connection that I don’t share with anybody else. When our older sister Michelle passed away almost 9 years ago we became even closer. Sharing the loss of one sister made us that much more important to each other. The masterpiece below was penned by Margaret. She was able to write beautifully about our relationship. I am in absolute awe of her way with words. I know I’m a tad biased but I don’t think a more talented poet has ever walked the earth. Just sayin’.

Speaking of stringing words together in a neat-o way, I have already completed (sort of) one of my 4 resolutions. I signed up for this writing class. Yay me.

Very lovely! I do too believe that I lucked out in the sister lottery as well. My sister and I are unbelievably close and I don’t know what I would do without her. =)

That was lovely. Margaret is a gifted poet, there is no doubt of that. The two of you are the poster girls for sisterhood. I feel as if when Michelle died that you each womaned up to higher levels of loving and sisterhood to fill the spot she left. Whenever I look at your beautiful faces- laughing, smiling, hugging each other, I see Michelle’s face too lit by the love and caring you both exude. I hit the daughters lottery – no doubt about that.
And I am so pleased you have signed up for the writing class.

you had me in tears… and this is the first time i’ve stumbled on your lovely blog.
what a beautiful poem.
i recently found a beautiful edition of “Little Women” and wanted to share this with you:
“Jo was alone in the twilight, lying on the old sofa, looking at the fire, and thinking. It was her favorite way of spending the hour at dusk; no one disturbed her, and she used to lie there on Beth’s little red pillow, planning stories, dreaming dreams, or thinking tender thoughts of the sister who never seemed far away.”
-Chapter XLIII
